Our Story

I left Iran in 2011 to begin a new life in the United States. Like many immigrants, I arrived with hope, ambition, and a willingness to work hard. I earned my master's degree, built a successful career in banking and technology, and achieved many of the goals I had once dreamed of.

Yet something was always missing.

It wasn't a particular dish or a specific place, it was a feeling.

The feeling of walking into my grandmother's home, where the fragrance of saffron, fresh herbs, and slow-simmered stews welcomed you before anyone spoke a word. The feeling of gathering around a table where meals lasted for hours, stories were passed from one generation to the next, and love was expressed through food.

That feeling became Vatan.

In Farsi, Vatan means homeland. To me, it is much more than a country. It is the place that lives within your heart, no matter how far away you travel. It is your memories, your traditions, your family, and the part of yourself that never leaves home.

For years, opening a restaurant was simply my “someday” dream. Then one day, my husband asked me a simple question:

That question changed everything.

What began as a distant dream slowly became a purpose. Along the way, remarkable people believed in this vision, shared their knowledge, encouraged me, and helped bring Vatan to life. Their generosity is woven into this restaurant's story.

Vatan is not an attempt to recreate the past.

It is a celebration of the Iran I know.

A land of extraordinary hospitality, breathtaking landscapes, ancient history, gifted artisans, timeless poetry, and families who have always believed that the greatest expression of love is sharing a meal.

For many people outside of Iran, the country is often known only through headlines. Yet behind those headlines is a civilization thousands of years old, filled with warmth, generosity, creativity, and one of the richest culinary traditions in the world.

That is the Iran I want you to experience.

Through every dish we serve, every story we tell, and every guest we welcome, my hope is to introduce you to the beauty of my homeland, not through politics or history books, but through hospitality. Because there is no better ambassador for a culture than the table where its people gather.

Persian cuisine is far more than the handful of dishes most people recognize. Across Iran's mountains, forests, deserts, coastlines, and villages are hundreds of regional recipes, each carrying its own history, flavors, and traditions.

At Vatan, our mission is to bring those stories to life.

Our menu is inspired by family recipes, regional specialties, and lesser known regional dishes that deserve to be celebrated. Every ingredient is chosen with intention. Every plate honors the generations of mothers and grandmothers whose kitchens preserved these traditions long before they reached ours.

Because in Persian culture, food has never been just about eating.

It is about gathering.

Our menu is designed to be shared, just as it has been for generations.

Whether you grew up in Tehran, Tabriz, Shiraz, Rasht, Ahvaz, Abadan, or this is your very first experience with Persian cuisine, my hope is the same.

I hope you feel welcomed.

When I imagine Vatan years from now, I hope people know our story. I hope they know there is always a place waiting for them here, a place where they can slow down, share a meal, and feel the comfort of walking into their grandmother's home, whether that home was in Abadan, Shiraz, Tabriz, Rasht, or somewhere else.

More than anything, I hope Vatan becomes a bridge.

A place where Iranians reconnect with home, and where those discovering our culture for the first time leave feeling welcomed like family.

Because that is what hospitality has always meant in Iran.

And that is what Vatan is here to share.
